IHI Engineering Australia Pty. Ltd. (ABN 25 000 945 504) was established on 22nd September, 1971 as an Australian Corporation in Sydney, NSW Australia as a wholly owned subsidiary of IHI Corporation (IHI), Japan.
IEA's Parent, IHI, is a major international organization with extensive involvement the design, manufacture and construction of Power and Chemical Plants, Heavy Industrial and Mass Produced Machinery, Materials Handling Equipment, Ship Building and Offshore Marine Structures, Steel Structures, Aero Engines and Space Craft . IHI has a wealth of experience both in Japan and many other countries and supports its activities with an extensive research and development program.
IEA is an agent for all IHI's products in the Oceania region and procures Australian manufactured equipment for IHI's major projects around the world.
In addition, IEA has undertaken the management of major project on behalf of IHI. Such projects have included construction of large coal fired boiler plants for the electricity industry in both New South Wales and Queensland, blast furnaces and rolling mills in New South Wales, Victoria and New Zealand, LM6000 gas turbine generation plant in Victoria and Western Australia, material handling equipment in all mainland states. etc.
Furthermore, IEA is capable of managing turn-key projects including the project management, design, inspection and testing, supply delivery, fabrication, erection, commissioning, quality assurance, training, documentation, performance guarantee and remedial work under defects liability. Project administration, design and procurement of the necessary plant and equipment is carried out from its Sydney Office. Where possible, subcontractors and manufacturers are selected to maximize the local content.
IEA has acquired and maintains AS/NZS ISO 9001 .
IEA, independently from its Parent, is undertaking major survey, repair and overhaul contracts for most of the large power stations with a total contract value now amounting to in excess of A$150 million since installation of the first unit in 1981.
